It is a pleasure to extend warm greetings to all delegates attending the 4th Iran Annual national
Conference on Preparation for WSIS+10, which is the most important annual event in Iran in the field of the information society.
The International Telecommunication Union is committed to connect all people around the globe to the
benefits of ICTs and to harness their vast potential to fast-track progress towards meeting the 2015
Millennium Development Goals, and we welcome Iran’s efforts in this regard, and in particular the
holding of this annual conference.
I understand that this conference will be: investigating the challenges in the decision-making procedures
for 2015; describing national actions and achievements in the field of the information society;
investigating the records and reports of completed activities with respect to information society indices;
monitoring and following up on receiving information from workgroups; updating action programs
across governmental organizations and the private sector aimed at achieving the WSIS Targets; creating
a national synergy in the field of the information society; and creating opportunities to enhance the
capabilities of companies and non-governmental organizations in the field of the information society.
These are honorable and important goals in line with ITU's mandate, so let me congratulate the
organizers of the conference – the Information Technology Organization of Iran (ITO), and the Iran
University of Science and Technology (IUST) – for their bold initiative in creating this annual event. Let
me also salute your constructive work in participating in the open consultation process, which includes
the WSIS+10 Review Process and the physical meetings of the WSIS Multi-stakeholder Preparatory
Platform (MPP), as well as pursuing the national actions and achievements in the field of the information society, which will be included in the ten-year national report for WSIS.
Finally, let me encourage all of you to come to Geneva for the 2014 WSIS+10 High Level Event, which
will be taking place from 10 to 13 June, with a day of pre-events on 9 June. Your commitment to WSIS is
admirable, and I look forward very much to welcoming you to Geneva.
With these considerations in mind, I wish you all – and the conference the greatest success.
